PermittingWETLANDS Wetlands are a valuable component of our ecosystem and play an important role in our quality of life and the environment. Permitting of wetland impacts typically involves determining wetland jurisdictional boundaries, potential wetland and water quality impacts, and providing mitigation to offset unavoidable impacts.
Scheda’s professionals have repeatedly proven their capability in the fields of freshwater, estuarine, and marine wetland impact permitting. Permitting wetland impacts can be required by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Section 404) and the Water Management District or Florida Department of Environmental Protection (ERP); sometimes, local Port Authority, county, and municipal permits are also required.
Most important, Scheda’s professionals coordinate wetland evaluations with site engineering to produce environmentally sound, permitable project designs. Our experience with environmental agencies, along with our solid reputation for coordinating projects throughout all phases of development, assists clients in avoiding permitting difficulties, thus minimizing impacts to project schedules and budgets.
PROTECTED SPECIES Scheda’s ecologists have experience with surveys and permitting for a wide variety of protected fauna including, but not limited to, the bald eagle, osprey, wading birds, southeast American kestrel, Florida scrub jay, red-cockaded woodpecker, Audubon’s crested caracara, snail kite, gopher tortoises, eastern indigo snake, Florida panther, West Indian manatee, and other marine mammals and sea turtles. Our scientists routinely coordinate protected species issues for design and construction projects.
MARINAS. MOORING FIELDS, BRIDGES, UTILITIES, NPDES AND AIR Examples of other types of permitting activities in which Scheda’s scientists have been intimately involved are highlighted below:
- Regional marinas and docking facilities;
- Mooring fields;
- New bridges and bridge replacements (U.S. Coast Guard);
- utilities;
- National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) (US EPA/FDEP); and
- Air pollution sources (construction and operation permits).
